This little rainbow piece can be called a sundog. Over the last few weeks I have seen several of them in the East, This is the only one I have seen over Heart Mountain. This one was in February.
I only remember seeing something like this once before. The sun was higher in the sky and mostly blocked by varying thicknesses of clouds (it was Oregon, after all). A rainbow was formed that completed a full circle around the sun. Not sure why I didn't photograph it, but it holds a nice spot in my memory.
I am a wife, mom and grandma. I enjoy my work as an upholsterer. I sing with a women's barbershop group and occasionally write things, like children's books or songs.

That's cool. Nice capture.

Thanks, J. Interesting what you saw, I have read about seeing full circle rainbows from airplanes.
Neat! I don't think I've ever seen one of those before.
And I sure didn't know they were called "sundogs!"
